Jewelry has become a universal accessory. It is no longer just for women, and it is no longer just for a child’s dress-up box. Men have discovered the option of adding a glint of gold or platinum to their persona, and children are following in the wake of wanting jewelry a part of their daily wear. Someone once said, “Clothes make the man!” and “Your clothing says it all!” Jewelry is a huge part of the wardrobe they are referring to and the way it is worn individually or collectively can immediately send a message to on-lookers about who you are; or aren’t. Today’s jewelry offers you options in a variety of metals, stones, gems and combinations of all. Celebrities are opting for the faux stones, some out of compassion for our earth advertising their support of going “green” or simply because the less expensive selections are just as eclectic, and support the individuality of one’s wardrobe. So, are there any hard and fast guidelines to “wearing jewelry?” Has Ms. Manners laid out the rules as to when you wear gold or silver? Is this a new rule, a kin to wearing white after Labor Day? The answer is, maybe!
